GUWAHATI, MAY 21, 2026: In a major crackdown against the illegal pharmaceutical trade, a joint team of the Drugs Control Administration and Guwahati Police conducted a massive raid at a premises in Rajmohan Boro Path, Ganeshpara under the Fatashil Ambari police station today. The operation resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs and medicines valued at over ₹10.10 lakh.
Acting on precise intelligence, a specialized team of five Inspectors of Drugs, accompanied by a strong contingent of police personnel, stormed the suspected location. The high-level raid team comprised:
- Shri Kiron Hazarika, Inspector of Drugs (IoD), Kamrup (M)
- Mrs. Puja Debnath, Inspector of Drugs (IoD), Kamrup (M)
- Shri Hem Chandra Bhatta, Inspector of Drugs (IoD), Kamrup (M)
- Dr. Iswar Hazarika, Inspector of Drugs (IoD), Morigaon
- Shri Chinmoy Patiri, Inspector of Drugs (IoD), Nagaon
NDPS Narcotics Recovered
During the thorough search of the premises, officials intercepted a significant cache of habit-forming drugs falling under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The narcotics, which were immediately handed over to the police for criminal investigation, include:
- 298 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup.
- 49 strips (735 tablets) of Ultacet, a prescription drug containing the opioid Tramadol.
The total market value of the seized NDPS contraband alone is estimated at ₹78,117.
Extensive Commercial Seizure
Beyond the narcotic substances, the joint team seized a massive haul of other unauthorized pharmaceutical products. In total, 19 different items were confiscated from the site, bringing the total valuation of the day’s seizure to a staggering ₹10,10,309.
To ensure a foolproof legal case and verify the quality and composition of the seized stock, the drug inspectors legally drew 12 samples for immediate statutory laboratory testing.
“This joint operation highlights our uncompromising stance against the illegal hoarding and distribution of scheduled and habit-forming drugs,” said an official privy to the investigation. “We are working in close tandem with the police to trace the supply chain and apprehend the kingpins behind this racket.”
A case has been registered at the Fatashil Ambari Police Station, and further investigations are underway to determine the source and intended destination of the massive haul.
